January Team day 6
Today was an awesome day of ministry! Some of the team helped continue the work on the medical center while the rest actually helped run a medical clinic. We had American medical personnel working in a hospital in Haiti come and serve in our clinic on their day off. What a blessing that our team was able to help provide this care and that we were blessed with the experience.
There were some serious illnesses that were treated today. One child was suspected to have a tumor developing on his eye and the doctor will see him on Monday at the hospital as well as giving her own resources to help cover some costs. A 2 1/2 week old baby was treated for a cold and chest infection. A few were treated for STD's. For some, they needed iron or blood pressure medication. The clinic today served over 60 patients!
What an incredible blessing to be part of God's work in Haiti! Thank you Team January for putting yourselves out there for this community!

Team January day 5
Today was a great day for Team January! We spent the morning in Canaan finishing up the landscaping around the medical center, adding some stone around the church, more painting, starting some trim, and home visits.
Ahhhh, the home visits. What a blessing that God allows us to take part in sharing life with some of the women of Canaan. We spent time talking, encouraging, and praying. Oh and for a few........holding babies.
We spent some time praying for a 2 1/2 week old baby and the family, Suzette's 4 month old grandaughter was also part of our day.
We had the privilege of praying with a father while his wife had their 2 year old at the hospital. They have been running tests and treating him for severe skin infections for the past two days. She brought their little boy to Jeff asking if we were having clinic at all this week. After taking a quick look, Jeff determined they couldn't wait a few more days and gave her money to get to the hospital immediately. He is doing a little better but they still are unsure what is going on.
These home visits are eye opening obviously because of the physical circumstances, but more so, of all six families we visited, none of them asked for prayer for any thing materialistic. They all asked for prayer for their spiritual life.
This afternoon, we went to visit the girls at Good Sam! Everyone had a great time with the kids playing and talking.
We are looking forward to an awesome day as we go to Canaan to run a medical clinic and do some finish work on the medical center!
Apologies for not being able to post any pictures tonight. The internet is not operating well enough for us to post them.

Canaan day 2
Wow, this team is getting some serious work done! More painting inside and out on the medical center. Pavers and stone laid. Trim being painted. Hanging trim around windows. All in time for a big clinic on Thursday. We are looking forward to making use of this awesome building as we serve the community!
Of course there was fun being had when the kids were on their recess break!

First day in Canaan
Our internet has been giving us a lot of trouble. Sorry about the short posts, but we want to get something up quickly while there is internet.
Today was a great day for Team January in Canaan. There was painting on the medical building, moving stones, and laying pavers to make walkways. The medical center is looking awesome!
Perhaps though the team was most affected by the interactions with one another and the Haitians they spent time with today. They had a chance to walk through the school while in session which is always a treat. The team also had the privilege to play with the kids while they were on their recess!
Thanks Team January for being a blessing today!

Team January day 2
Team January attended church this morning. Some shared being very blessed to have been able to worship here the same way they do at home!
Following church, the team took a tour around the Port-au-Prince area experiencing many different economic levels. This is a very educational trip.
This afternoon, the team and the Good Samaritan children spent two hours playing games, soccer, basketball, playing on a playground and just spent time together.
Our internet connection is preventing me from loading pictures onto the blog, but I was able to post some on the AWAKENHAITI facebook page. Please refer to that to see the fun from the afternoon.
Please pray for the team as they experience Canaan tomorrow. They'll be continuing the work on the medical center. Please pray for their health esp in the sun and also pray for them emotionally as they take in their surroundings.

January Birthdays
-->
Frankline Belange – January 1,
1998 - will be 15 this month. Frankline is a very athletic girl. She often
keeps to herself and doesn’t talk a lot, but when it comes to games and sports
she is always playing hard. Her quiet demeanor gets pushed aside when it comes
to competition – she loves it! Once in a while, you will catch Frankline with
her friends being silly and goofy – but only if no one is watching.
Gina Michel – January 11, 1998
- turns 15 this month. Gina is an extremely sweet, caring girl. She enjoys the
simple things in life! You will often find her holding one of the cats at the
girls home, or her Barbie doll. When teams come, Gina loves to find one person
to sit with, hold their hand, and talk to. She has a great big smile, along
with a great big heart!
Judith Rodney – January 17,
1998 - turns 15 this month. Judith is one of our ‘go-to’ girls when it comes to
decorating for parties and activities. She is very creative and an excellent
crafts-person. Judith is also one of our best dancers in gym class.
Loubens Lector – January 15,
2008 - turns 5 this month, along with his twin brother Loubenson. Loubens is
often shy and will quietly go about his day. But, once he opens up, he is very
sweet and loves to be held. Loubens also is a fan of tickling! Both he and his
twin brother LOVE to dance, Loubens being the more particular dancer, trying to
do the moves correctly.
Loubenson Lector – January 15,
2008 – turns 5 this month, along with his twin brother Loubens. Loubenson is
full of energy and has a great big personality. He will usually be found
talking, climbing things, wrestling, or running throughout the house. Like his
brother, Loubenson has a soft side and can be found giving out hugs and and
kisses to the girls in the home. Loubenson also likes to
free-style dance!

Monday in Canaan
Team December spent the morning painting the medical center and helping to run a medical clinic. Caroline, our nurse did a fabulous job helping and encouraging patients!
Our 1 1/2 hour drive back to the guest house was a great time to take a rest...heat, horns, bumps don't stop some from catching up on some needed rest. Check out the pictures on facebook to see this tired bunch!
The evening began with an awesome Haitian meal. Rice and beans, chicken, akra, fried plantains, and vegetables. We then celebrated New Year's and Good Samaritan November and December birthdays with singing, fun, and lots of sugary food. An awesome blessing to have shared this night welcoming 2013 with our amazing kids from Good Sam!
